Prague was a city of a lot of Czech kings. When our the most known ruler Charles IV. ruled, Prague was so beautiful like some other famous cities that time – Rome, Paris or Florence. Prague was a virtually flowering city. Charles the IV. really loved Prague so much that he wanted it to be the capital city of Holy Roman Empire. Prague was also the capital city of former socialistic Czechoslovakia. There were built a big blocks of flats on green grasslands round the city – the largest of them is Jižní Město.
If I had to show Prague to my friend from abroad, it would be very demanding day because Prague has a lot of nice places to visit. Contrary to most of the europan cities, Prague’s sights were only slightly damaged during the World War two. Thanks to these sights is Prague one of the most frequently visited cities in Europe. So I would show my friend the Žižkov Television Tower whereon are statues of crawling babies by artist David Černý. Then I would show him the Charles bridge, Hradčany and Prague castle. Just all the really known things. The Golden Lane is also very beautiful and worth seeing. I would also take him to the Wenceslas Square – it is a cultural and a business centre and there is the statue of st. Wenceslas sitting on the horse which is also a frequent rendezvous. When we want to meet there, we can say „we will meet under the tail“. Another really interesting sight is the Dancing house which is really beautiful exhibition of the modern architecture for me. The Astronomical Clock are a must see sight too because when I was a little child I saw The Astronomical Clock and I was impressed by that. I think that it could be a nice memory of Prague for my friend as for me. I also wouldn´t forget at Petřín Lookout Tower – it is a very popular tourist attraction. Its look resembles the Eiffel Tower. Some nice performance at the National theatre might be also an interesting experience. The building of the Nationale theatre is one of the most significant buildings – in the meaning of both historical and architectural. And finally I would take my friend to a good restaurant. There is a lot of restaurants in Prague.
I must say that I have a very specific relationship to Prague. As a child I often went to Prague and I liked all the things – sights, shops and so on. It was very impressive for me. However, then I started to see the second face of Prague – the negative one. There is a lot of cars, smog, a lot of people and especially foreigners. Suddenly I felt bad there. However, I see the both faces today. I think that Prague is a beautiful city for a trip, a chance for people in sphere of working occasions and so on. As for me Prague is a place of musical events. Fortunately, my friend moved to Prague this year so now I already haven´t to gape at the railway station and wait for a morning train.
POZNÁMKA: čti Charles THE IV.
