:) Taky SKVĚLÉ a zdravé jídlo.

London

London is the capital city of England and it is also the capital city of the Commonwealth. The Commonwealth is an association of Great Britain and its former colonies. London has a little over seven milion inhabitants. There is the river Thames pouring throught the city. The Tames is a very special river because it rises up to five metres during eight hours. London is considered to be one of the most interesting cities in the world – especially in the cultural meaning. City of London is also one of the biggest world´s business centers. There is one of the biggest insurence companies in the world called Lloyd‘s. The important branches of industry are textile production, production of groceries and production of furniture. A writer Samuel Johnson said about London that „who is tired of London is also tired of life“.

As for the history, perhaps the best known ruler was William the Conqueror who conquered England in 1066 and after it was crowned as King of England. London was stricken of Great plague in the middle of 14. century. Approximately a third of the population died that time. Another big disaster was the Great fire of London. London was a wooden city that time and the fire caused big pecuniary losses. Renewal of the city took more than ten years. After the fire houses were started to be built of stone. The main architect was Sir Christopher Wren. There was a monument built for his remembrance.

London has a lot of beautiful places to visit. Unfortunately, a lot of sights was damaged during the World War II. The centre of social events of London is Westminster where are most shops and entertainment centres. There are also the biggest industrial companies. There is also Palace of Westminster where is seat of government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland – the House of Lords and the House of Commons. Head of the House Lord is a Lord Chancellor and head of the House of Commons is a Speaker. Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace are a must see sights. Westminster Abbey is one of the most beautiful gothic buildings. It is a crypt of former rulers and also a place where coronations are done. Buckingham Palace is an official seat of the royal family. The best known square is called Picadilly Circus. Two the most known towers are in London – Victoria Tower and Clock Tower. Clock Tower has the hardest bell in England named Big Ben. Covent Garden is a business and entertainment centre with entrance to Royal Opera House. Downing street is a known street with a seat of the prime minister and minister of finance. London has also the biggest Ferris wheel in the world called the London Eye. London has a lot of nice parks and gardens, for example Green Park, St. James´s Park or Hyde Park. There is Speaker´s Corner – it is a place where is allowed to express our opinions. There is also a lot of concerts. Concert called Live 8 have been done there, for example. Kesington gardens are very beautiful too. Nice place is Trafalgar Square which reminds of Battle of Tragalgar during the Napoleonic wars. This place is often visited. Then I can mention Chinatown – it is an area in Soho. There is a lot of Chinese restaurants, shops with groceries and souvenirs. As for galleries and museums, we know the National Gallery, Museum of Madame Tussauds, the Sherlock Holmes Museum, the Tate Gallery, the British Museum or Saatchi Gallery. The British Museum is one of the biggest and the most important musems of history and culture. It contains collections subjects from all the continents documenting history of mankind from its start to its present. And Saatchi Gallery is gallery of modern art. There are also the London Bridge and the Tower Bridge.

As for transport, London has one of the biggest airports in the world – Heathrow. Another known airports are Gatwick, Luton or Stansted. Very popular means of transport is the underground called the Tube. We know also railway stations, for example Victoria Station – it is one of the biggest railway stations in the world.

System of Czech and British education

Law orders three levels of education in Britain - the primary school, the secondary school and the further education. Children from five to eleven years go to primary school, from twelve to sixteen years to secondary school, from sixteen and eighteen years take the A level exams or go to a six form college. They take the A level exams in eighteen years and from eighteen years study university, polytechnic or a college of education. Good results in the A level exams are the presumption for entrance on some of British universities. Interviews are important too. Schools in Britain are divided into Humanitarian/Art spheres and Sciential spheres. Students, who want to attend Humanitarian spheres, study English and literature, history, foreign language, music, art and theatre scholarship. Those who want to attend to Sciential spheres, study chemistry, physics, mathematics, economy, engineering drawing, biology and geography. All scholars have to pass physical education, teaching about housekeeping, engineering works for girls and basics of natural science.

The Czech education system is divided this way: attendance to primary school takes nine years. The primary school is divided into the first level and the second level. After finishing of the primary school the scholars can go on a grammar school, a special school or a vocational school. When we study a grammar school or a special school we do the leaving examination and then we get the leaving certificate. Contrary to the British education system, the leaving certificate isn´t presumption for entrancing the university. When we want to go at university we have to do special entrance examination. They can go at college or a university. We can get the Bachelor's degree or the Master's degree.

There are several differences between British schools end Czech schools. One of them is wearing of uniforms. Students are obliged to wear a uniform but this rule doesn’t exist in the Czech Republic. Marks in Britain are given away in the form of letters – the best is A and the worst is E. In the Czech republic are marks in a form of numbers – the best is 1 and the worst is 5. Advantage of the British education system may be that if we do the A level exams we may be admitted to university. It isn´t like that in the Czech Republic – the leaving examination doesn´t have such a high relevance in here. Graduation of a secondary school in Britain has a higher value than in the Czech Republic. Not unfrequently happens that people with the secondary level works in various inferior jobs.

In my opinion in the Czech education system doesn’t accentuate the individuality of a person. Education is oriented on a performance generally no matter what are interests or needs of a student. A frequent problem is also a wrong communication between a teacher and a student. Another disadvantage is prefering of swotting instead usage of logic, discretion or an opinion. I think these are primarily problems of public schools in full op classes where isn´t enough space and time. I remember when very few of students came to our class. Lessons were quieter, students listened and weren´t so much dispersived like in a collective of thirty classmates.

The most known universities in Britain are the University of Cambridge, the University of Oxford and the University of Glasgow. The most important universities in the Czech Republic are the Charles University and the best known universities in America are Harvard University, Yale University and Princeton.

My favourite subject in school is the English language. Because I hadn´t english at a primary school I have to learn a lot of things. However, I like foreign languages generally and English is very close to me. I like it is a language I can make understood with in the whole world and I would like to improve it in some outland in the future. I try to watch different english films with captions and read english articles. My another favourite subject is economy. I like that it is a subject which I can use in a practical life. I also like history – I like going back to the past. Contrary to that I don´t like mathematics because it is very abstract subject for me. I like solving of simple mathematical exercises but I must say that I´m bored with some complex and surd numbers and so on. However, mathematics train our logic and that is a big advantage.

Society and the changes we have to face

Nowadays the most serious problems are alcohol, drugs, violence and crime generally. We can have a feeling that the situation is very bad especially at the present time. It can be true but on the other hand we often feel these problem especially because of mass media – the internet, television, newspaper and so on. There are picturized murders, thefts and another different problems every day. A big problem is also racial hatred.

Different people are alcohol addict – younger and also older people. Reasons can be different but they connected with psyche – people often drink to don´t have to see their life which they don´t like it. From my point of view dependence on alkohol is slowly suicide. People who suffer from it can really die. They often go to hospitál. Some of them people cure also in asylum but according to statistical data very little of them restore to health. Dependence on alcohol at first can look harmlessly – a man seay that he drink because of good mood but then he start to have problems in a family, in a jo band many others. Our country try so that young people haven´t chance to drink alkohol – it is dissalowed to give alkohol to people who aren´t 18. However, most of young people still drink. Dependence on drugs is more dangerous problem.

Violent is also frequent problem. Very violent people are for example fans of different football clubs. The most violent people are fans from football club called Baník from city of Ostrava in our country. They fight together at the stadium and do mess at railway stations. These people have a lot of agression and ventilace them of these unhappy ways. A servus problem is violent on women. Fortunately, there is progress in statues which connected with the problem. Very sad thing i salso violent on children. Some parents strike their own children and sometimes the fact is disclose after many years. These children suffer from trauma ans some of them are sigmatized to end of their life. The things are in charge of welfare services and police.

Racism is master race. When people critize a person according to its complexion we talk about racial prejudices. I think that good example of racism is age when black people were being imported to America as slaves. Perle whig white skin were better. Ethnic problems are the most serious problems in our country. A lot of people have problems with gypsies here. On the one hand it is comprehensible because a lot of gypsies who came to us in time of comunism don´t integrate in our country and do a lot of problems – thive, don´t work and don´t lead their children to education. However, there is also gypsies who came to us several hundreds of years ago and they have different behaviour. I actually think that some people have problems with complexion but on the other hand I think that most of people are especially interested in behaviour of these people. When a man is polite he will be accepted by society. Some people thinkt that the ideal soluting would be when gypsies would be displaced from the country. However, I think that it is soluting of immature state. Gypsies should have equivalence of conditions and in case of infringement their functions they should go to a prison and so on. I think that gypsies learn of living here but it takes long time.

I think that problems of definite people are also problems of all society. A society have to solve them and society is also their reason. To be world of safe place for living – without problems with alkohol, drugs, violent and racial prejudices and so on, we have to try about relative respekt of each other and respekt to us. People can do this: they can start to raise their children with love and can try give them definite moral fundamentals. From my point of view it is right solution.

Great Britain

Great Britain is an island state in the northwest Europe, separated from the continent by the English Channel and the North Sea. It is connected with the continental Europe by the Channel Tunnel. It is the largest island in Europe and the ninth largest island in the World. Great Britain is made up of the union of historic countries: England, Scotland, Wales and North Ireland. The more correct name is: „The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland“. We can also use the abbreviation „The U.K.“.

Great Britain has a little over sixty millions inhabitants and the English are the most numerous group in the country. The United Kingdom is a target of massive immigration by non-european inhabitants. Many imigrants or their offspring originate from various parts of the former British empire - India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Honkong, Africa and Caribbean region. The capital city is London which also covers the largest area. The highest mountain is Ben Nevis in Scotland and the longest river is the Thames. The official language is English.

As for a government regime, Great Britain is a constitutional monarchy. Government with a prime minister has the executive power. The current prime minister is David Cameron. The actual ruler, the Queen Elisabeth II. has only a formal position. However, statutes can´t be approved without her signature. The Queen Elisabeth II. is also a head of another thirteen states of Commonwealth which is an association of Great Britain and its former dominions and colonies. The parlament consists of the House of Commons headed by Speaker and House of Lords headed by Lord Chancellor.

Great Britain was an important centre of enlightement with great philosophical and scientifical potential and significant literature and dramatic tradition. Some of the significant philosophers were Jeremy Bentham or John Stuart Mill. A famous writer was William Shakespeare who established a theatre with the name „Globe“ in Southwark in London. It burnt up during a performance in 1613 and was destroyed later during the civil war. Nowadays it is in service again.

Climate is gentle with relative small fluctuations in temperatures. It is influenced especially by warm Gulf Stream and interference of warm air from east Africa with cold air from an Iceland area and the Arctic, resulting into strong winds and abundant rainfall.

The most numerous group of farmable animals are sheep, cattle, pigs and fowls. The main crops are wheat, barley, potatoes and sugar beet. The production is highly mechanized. Only two percent of employable population work in agriculture.

The industrial revolution invoked a need of building-up a railway net. However, the importance of railway transport fell down despite of its modernizing. The local and remote bus transport is developed. British Airways is one of the largest airlines in the World and London with the airports Heathrow and Gatwick is the largest airway junction in Europe. Fifty-three british cities have a regular airway connection.

The most favourite sport is football. The most famous clubs are for example Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and national team pertains to the world’s best. The second favourite sport is ragby. The most important matches of ragby league are played at stadiums Twickenham in London, Millennium in Cardiff and Murrayfield in Edinburgh. Another favourite sports are golf, cricket and so on. For example, the people often play cricket in front of their houses.

Great Britain was the world’s number one in economy and industry. However, it fell on forth position because of breaking up its colonial empires and competition. The most important branch of industry is a production of transport facilities – cars and aeroplanes. The production of textile machines and textile production is also renowned as well as a production of scotch. London is one of the most important business and financial centre in the world. For example the Lloyd´s – the greatest life insurance company in the World.

Great Britain is very attractive for tourists thanks to the many historical landmarks, cultural events and varied scenery. I would like to visit all the known places as The Palace of Westminster or Big Ben and to visit scotish scenery because many people say that Scotland is a really beautiful country. I would also like to visit a typical english pub and taste some good food there and to take a turn by a ship on the river Can which is pouring around the University of Cambridge. I think that must be a very nice experience.

POZNÁMKA: čti Queen Elisabeth THE II.

Prague

Prague is our capital city and has a little over one milion inhabitants. It has twenty two boroughs. There is the Vltava river pouring through the city. There is Prague castle which is the largest castle complex in the world and it is protected by care of historical monuments with name UNESCO. Prague is considered to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world. You know that Prague is given a name as „Heart of Europe“. We also know another names for Prague, for example „Hundred spired Prague“. Important quarters of Prague are the Old Town, the New Town, the Lesser Quarter, Smichov or Branik, for example. There is also Czech president‘s seat, government and High Court of Justice. There is the Ruzyně Airport – it is the biggest airport in the Czech Republic. A lot of people commute to work to Prague, especially from Central Bohemian Region. The most important branch of industry are production of groceries and production of electric and optical equipments.

Prague was a city of a lot of Czech kings. When our the most known ruler Charles IV. ruled, Prague was so beautiful like some other famous cities that time – Rome, Paris or Florence. Prague was a virtually flowering city. Charles the IV. really loved Prague so much that he wanted it to be the capital city of Holy Roman Empire. Prague was also the capital city of former socialistic Czechoslovakia. There were built a big blocks of flats on green grasslands round the city – the largest of them is Jižní Město.

If I had to show Prague to my friend from abroad, it would be very demanding day because Prague has a lot of nice places to visit. Contrary to most of the europan cities, Prague’s sights were only slightly damaged during the World War two. Thanks to these sights is Prague one of the most frequently visited cities in Europe. So I would show my friend the Žižkov Television Tower whereon are statues of crawling babies by artist David Černý. Then I would show him the Charles bridge, Hradčany and Prague castle. Just all the really known things. The Golden Lane is also very beautiful and worth seeing. I would also take him to the Wenceslas Square – it is a cultural and a business centre and there is the statue of st. Wenceslas sitting on the horse which is also a frequent rendezvous. When we want to meet there, we can say „we will meet under the tail“. Another really interesting sight is the Dancing house which is really beautiful exhibition of the modern architecture for me. The Astronomical Clock are a must see sight too because when I was a little child I saw The Astronomical Clock and I was impressed by that. I think that it could be a nice memory of Prague for my friend as for me. I also wouldn´t forget at Petřín Lookout Tower – it is a very popular tourist attraction. Its look resembles the Eiffel Tower. Some nice performance at the National theatre might be also an interesting experience. The building of the Nationale theatre is one of the most significant buildings – in the meaning of both historical and architectural. And finally I would take my friend to a good restaurant. There is a lot of restaurants in Prague.

I must say that I have a very specific relationship to Prague. As a child I often went to Prague and I liked all the things – sights, shops and so on. It was very impressive for me. However, then I started to see the second face of Prague – the negative one. There is a lot of cars, smog, a lot of people and especially foreigners. Suddenly I felt bad there. However, I see the both faces today. I think that Prague is a beautiful city for a trip, a chance for people in sphere of working occasions and so on. As for me Prague is a place of musical events. Fortunately, my friend moved to Prague this year so now I already haven´t to gape at the railway station and wait for a morning train.

The United States of America

The United States of America are the world´s number one in economical, political and cultural force. For their status they‘re bound to great amount of natural recources, long tradition of a democratic society, various national composition and massive national identity. The first image of America pictures the Statue of Liberty which greets immigrants and expresses safe arrival to the world of great possibilities.

The United states of America are a federative presidential republic in North America, spreading out from the Atlantic to the Pacific ocean. Thanks to Aljaska exclava, the territory of the USA stretches also to coasts of Arctic Ocean and to some Pacific‘s islands. The United States contain fifty states. The capital city is Washington D. C. The abbreviation D. C. means District of Columbia. The highest mountain is Mount McKinley, the longest river is the Mississippi and the largest city is New York.

Probably the first Europeans who achieved America were Vikings. The Caribbean was discovered by Christopher Columbus and wrongly named as East Indies and its inhabitants Indians. Soon it turned out, that the land isn‘t part of Asia but a new world which was then named after Amerig Vespucci - one of the seafarers who came after Columbus.

There are approximately 300 milion inhabitants in the USA. Population composition vary a lot because of enormous immigration having being so characteristic since the very beginning of the country’s history.
The first settlers from the Old World were coming mostly from northwest Europe, especially from England, Ireland, the Nederlands, Germany, France and Spain. The black population was being imported especially from coasts of East Africa because of slave labour on plantations.

The USA haven´t got any official language. However, the most widely used language is English. There are also Spanish in New Mexico and French in Louisiana, for example. The situation is more varied in some of another parts of the USA - a language of original inhabitants is there often protected by special rules.

The United States are the oldest federation in the world. It is a representative democracy functional throught congres system which is defined by the USA Constitution. That way territory falls under three agencies – federal, state and local. Political system is based on a majority system. Two main parties dominate american politics – the Republican party and the Democratic party. In the American political culture is The Republican party understood as conservative, the Democratic party as liberal. Since 2009 the current president of the United States of America is Barack Obama.

The most prestigious professional sport is american football. It originates from american universities. Another favourite sports are baseball and hockey.

Thanks to its size the USA lie in several significant climate passes. The weather is inconstant and the fluctuations in temperature can come several times a day.
The northern part of territory lies in a gentle pass but it is colder and more humid than Europe. It implicated cold Labrador Current which bathes northeast and east coast. The coldest nights are in the Rocky Mountains and Sierra Nevada where we can experience one of the strongest frosts in America.

The United States are rich in mineralogical resources and take the first position in crude oil production in the world. The most important branch of industry is still engineering - especially production of transport facilities and agricultural and building technics. Electronic industry takes the second position.

Approximately the half of the area of the United States is used for agricultural purposes. Production exceede in-state consumption and the country is one of the largest exporters of groceries. The high mechanization evoked that only about two percent of employable population works in agriculture. The main crops are maize, wheat or soja beens. The most numerous group of keeped animals are cattle and fowls.

I would like to visit the Yellowstone national park. It is the oldest national park in the world. There is a lot of cascades and mountain springs. There live a lot of interesting animals, for example a grizzly bear, american black bear, coyotes and other mammals. There is a lot of kinds of birds including the national bird of the USA – the bald eagle.

Famous cities:
New York (the most populous, statue of liberty, brodway)
New Haven (yeale university)
Pittsburgh (technology, financial services)
Detroit (the production of cars – ford, chrysler; is one of the cities with the highest criminality in the USA, the first mayor was Czech with name Čermák)
Washington D. C. (the White house)
San Francisco (the Golden Gate bridge, Alcatraz Island)

Jobs

The main importance of a job is earning money. Everyone needs to pay hire, food, clothes… Just all the important things for living. Some people even consider the caviar for an important thing for living for example. These people are well-paid, they are executives. These executives are sometimes called as „fat cats“ because some people think that they do too little work for too much money. However, money aren´t only importance of a job. A job is also a social issue – when we have a job we have chance to meet with a lot of interesting people. When we have a job we live an active life. We get a lot of experience in our job and also our self-confidence grows there.

We can look for a job over the internet or in newspaper. We get a job through an employment agencies too or we even get a job from headhunters. That means we are so much good in our work that other companies scramble for us! Headhunters can offer us a clearly higher pay or something like that. If we apply for a job some employers could want a CV from us. Nowadays structured CVs are mainly required.
Employers may make some raw idea about us from that. Therefore we should be careful during its writing. We can be asked for a job interview too. But we don´t have to wait until someone offers us a job. We can work as self-employed. That means we work for ourselves.

A job can be divided into two main categories. We have manual workers as workmen, locksmiths, bricklayers and so on. Then we have brainworkers as economists, managers or teachers for example. The manualworkers get a wage and brainworkers get a salary. We know the time wage and the task wage. Salary is a certain amount of money which employees get every month. Some workers can get a commission too. For example, sellers often get a commission in a form of a certain percentage for every product they sell. Some workers may get a performance-related bonus if they are hard-working enough. However, workers don’t necessarily need to get only money but they could get some benefits too – they could be able to board cheaply in a company’s eating-places or get a company cars.

We know also these kinds of jobs: a full-time job – it is a job with the usual work time, a part-time job – it is work with shorter work time than is the usual work time, a permanent job – it is continual job and a temporary job – work time of this job finishes after a given time. This job is also called a brigade-work. We can have nine-to-five job or we can work in shifts – in day shifts or night shifts. We can do overtimes too for what we get overtime bonuses.

Nowadays, we also know jobs with flexi-time. It means that a person works when he wants to. Of course, one has some certain limits. It is an advantage for people who have a family for example, and they want to have control over their time. I must say I would want to work with fixed labour time because I like order – I feel good like that. However, working with flexi-time must be interesting too. Nowadays we can work through computers too – it is called teleworking or telecommuting.

Another important thing are labour unions. People get support in case of undignified working conditions or substandard pays - there is a defined minimum wage which employees should get. In case of infringement of these rules employees may also do some industrial action. For instance a strike, go-slow tactic or an overtime ban.

In case we get fired because of organizational changes we may request compensation money. For instance, in our country, compensation money is often given in amount of triple. If we are sacked because of our offence we will usually get nothing.

I think that it is absolutly great if a person likes his job. And the best thing is when a person is also well-paid for it. I´m convinced that if people don´t like their job the quality of their job isn´t high enough. On the contrary people who are interested in their job are more energetic and initiative and this fact is connected with their performance results. As for temporary jobs, I think that it is great when young people go to work abroad. Boys can work as manualworkers and girls as au-pairs for example. People can gain experience there. They can become more independent and the great advantage of it is improvement of a foreign language. This experience may be an advantage in another job.

The choice of job is the important thing for us. Therefore people should explore life around them and study themselves. We should know what are our abilities and hobbies. It could help us to the right choice of our job. We also may do some attainment tests which could help us with the choice. Some people want to work as manual workers but other people want to use their brain. We should know what standard of living we want to get. When we have a job we should be hard-working and responsible. However, some people are so hard-working that can suffer from the „burnout“. That can be very dangerous! That is the negative face of excessive assingment.
